Tripp West, who was mid-day host at Star 94 for 11 years, has found his way back to that time slot on rival B98.5.
West takes over for Jordan Graye, who turned down a contract renewal last month after more than a quarter century at the adult pop station.
“I hate that Jordan chose not to renew her contract and I love her to death, but her choice has opened new doors for me. I own her a great debt of gratitude,” West texted me this morning.
This is a big schedule improvement for West, who has been doing a combo job the past two years hosting evenings at B98.5 followed by overnight board work at News 95.5 and AM 750 WSB.
He will be on at 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting September 30 and also has the title of music director.
“Over the past two years, we’ve watched Tripp become a true ‘jack of all trades’ at the station,” said Chris Eagan, CMG Atlanta’s Director of Branding and Programming for B98.5 and The River 97.1 FM, in a press release. “He really understands how to engage our audience on air and on social.”
West came to Atlanta in 1997 and worked mid-days for Star 94 for more than 11 years. He then played journeyman. He spent eight months as morning producer at 94.9/The Bull, followed by afternoons at now defunct dance station 105.7/The Groove, then two years at Atlanta’s Greatest Hits until the station changed to the news format in 2012.
He also runs his own DJ company Liquid Mind Productions if you want him for your special occasion.
B98.5 and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution are both part of Cox Media Group.
