Lauren Lake spends more than three months a year in Atlanta during the summer shooting her successful syndicated daytime judge show “Paternity Court,” which airs locally on CW69 at 1 p.m. weekdays.
But her background has always been more varied: real estate investor, home decorator and background singer for the likes of Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z and P. Diddy. On Friday, she will attend the Atlanta Braves game to sing the National Anthem. This is the first time she’s ever performed the anthem acapella at a sporting event.
“This has been a dream for me,” Lake said. She is not at all nervous, she said, simply excited for the opportunity.
“I truly love the song,” she said, not at all worried she’ll go off key or miss a lyric and end up on YouTube. “You just move through it and focus on your voice. It’s the day to bring your A game. I’m definitely bringing mine.”
Lake is living in a trendy in-town apartment while she’s here taping her show at Georgia Public Broadcasting for a third season. And she’s enjoying taping her season so far of “Paternity Court.”
“We came out the gate with some explosive cases,” she said. “It’s been amazing. The level of raw emotion and family drama this particular season has been fascinating.”

The Cleveland Cavaliers fierce game 7 battle with the Golden State Warriors Sunday night drew the largest NBA finals viewership for any NBA game going back 38 years.
Nationally, the seventh game drew more than 30.8 million live viewers, peaking at 44 million in the final minutes. This is the third most popular program this year behind the Super Bowl (111.9 million) and the Academy Awards (34.4 million). It was seen locally on WSB-TV, which is part of Cox Media Group, along with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
In Atlanta, the game drew a 21.2 rating, which equates to about 500,000 households out of 2.4 million. That was a higher rating than Birmingham (20.4), New York (20.3), Raleigh (20.2), Houston (19.7), Los Angeles (18.3), Orlando (18.1), Chicago (17.5), Detroit (17.2), Washington (16.7), Phoenix (16.7), Philadelphia (16.6), Nashville (15.9), New Orleans (15.1) and Boston (14.9) but less than Miami (24.1) and Memphis (21.7)
Cleveland naturally had a nationwide high 47.1 rating with 68 percent of all TVs that were on in the area on that game. That’s more than 700,000 households. In San Francisco, the rating was 38.2 rating, or 950,000 households.
Atlanta’s HLN will debut “Michaela” featuring Michaela Pereira on July 11 from 10 p.m. to 1 p.m. EST out of Los Angeles. This means, she will effectively be a West Coast morning show, giving Robin Meade an hour break since she runs from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. daily. This also means three hours taken away from coverage out of Atlanta’s CNN Center. Another New York-based show will be added this fall on HLN featuring Erica Hill.
Pereira has been with the morning show on CNN “Good Day” the past three years.
