TV best bets with Shark Week, Denis Leary, ‘Zoo,’ music nostalgia

Shark Week 2016

By RODNEY HO/ rho@ajc.com, originally filed Sunday, June 26, 2016

It’s now the dog days of summer and Discovery carts out a raft of original shark specials on the subject.

Discovery is now focusing more on scientific education than silly scripted nonsense.. (The schedule is here.)

Otherwise, this is a pretty dead week for TV. CBS’s “Zoo” returns Tuesday for a second season amid PETA-related controvers over use of live animals. ABC’s new Thursday series “Greatest Hits” taps nostalgia mixing current acts with older acts to highlight music from the 1980s through the 2000s. (Yup, you’ll get your Rick Springfield, Kim Carnes and Kool and the Gang in the first episode covering 1980 to 1985.)

And Denis Leary’s FX show “Sex and Drugs and Rock n Roll” returns for a second season Thursday night on his new Showtime show “Roadies” which debuted on Sunday night.
