For the ninth time, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood hosted the CMA Awards last night and this one was epic, given it was the 50th anniversary.
A litany of past greats showed up, from Randy Travis to Charlie Daniels to Loretta Lynn with tributes to everyone from Merle Haggard to Johnny Cash.
Underwood – who made a dozen costume changes – got to perform her latest single “Dirty Laundry,” now No. 14 on the Mediabase country chart but almost guaranteed a spot in the top 3 because everything she releases lands at or near the top of the airplay chart. She also won the Female Vocalist of the Year award for the fourth time, breaking Miranda Lambert‘s six-year streak. She was up for Entertainer of the Year but Garth Brooks won that.
She also took part in a tribute to Dolly Parton.
Season 13 finalist C.J. Harris will spend an extra month in jail in Alabama because he didn’t show up to court over a drug arrest. He mixed up dates, he said, according to TMZ.
Harris turned himself in Monday after an arrest warrant was issued due to his skipping out on a court date last month.
Harris was supposed to be in court Oct. 27 for his drug arrest, but we’re told he claims he confused that for another date. We broke the story … Harris was arrested in an undercover drug bust for selling oxycodone and marijuana. He’s facing three felonies.
Harris will be held in jail until later this month for his next hearing.
Kelly Clarkson again talks about how hard it is to balance her career with being a mom, this time to People magazine.
“While I love music, my family comes first,” she says. “There are days where s— hits the fan, and I’m crying because there’s not enough time to do everything. But that’s any mom. It’s a hard thing to take care of children. You’re molding lives. You don’t want to suck at it.”
Phillip Phillips loves “The Walking Dead.” He told Billboard his thoughts:
The singer is a huge fan of the show, and was just as shocked as everyone else when favorite characters Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) and Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) met their demise at the hands of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
“I couldn’t sit still,” he says. “I guessed it was Abraham, so I knew that was happening, but the Glenn thing threw me off.”
Jordin Sparks will guest star as herself in a fantasy sequence on ABC’s ‘The Real O’Neals,” according to EW.
As ABC puts it, “Kenny’s fear that his relationship with his boyfriend is moving too quickly leads to a fantasy sequence in which he pictures their rut of a future, complete with belly fat, receding hairlines, and way too many lap dogs. Enter Jordin Sparks, whose surprise visit is cut short when she points out that settling down too soon has ruined Kenny’s life.”
Adam Lambert, in Australia judging “The X Factor,” celebrated Halloween thusly:
