WABE-FM doyenne Lois Reitzes is going to be a guest storyteller during the early show at improv theater Dad’s Garage Friday night, January 6.
The radio host of daily arts program “City Lights” will tell a story that will then be “performed” by the cast. The cast, of course, has no idea what she’s going to say before hand. Comedy will hopefully ensure. She’ll be one of four local Atlantans taking part Friday. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show are $14.50 online, $16.50 at the door.
Dad’s Garage likes to experiment with improv comedy genres. It has been bringing in local raconteurs to help out with special “Story Spot” nights. Reitzes is the biggest name so far to take part.
“WABE’s City Lights and Dad’s Garage have high regard for each other’s work,” Reitzes wrote me via email. “At its core, our programming is about telling stories, as is Dad’s. And even though they do improv comedy and we do arts coverage, there’s a shared love of our community between us.”
“That, and an appreciation of Mel Brooks’ genius,” she added.
Matt Terrell, who handles publicity for Dad’s Garage, noted in an email: “She recorded our pre-show announcements (they are very funny to hear in her voice), and she even did an April Fool’s day episode with Dad’s last year. We are really excited to have her on our stage.”
