TV best bets with ‘Handmaid’s Tale,’ Bobby Kennedy, ‘Quantico,’ ‘Archer’

The big return this week is Hulu’s grim “The Handmaid’s Tale” on Wednesday.

Some other shows return including Atlanta-produced “Brockmire” on IFC and FXX’s “Archer” both on Wednesday. CBS brings back “Code Black” Wednesday as well and ABC’s “Quantico” comes back for a third season Thursday with a new direction and new showrunner.

Netflix’s most notable offering is a four-part documentary on Bobby Kennedy.

This covers Monday, April 23 through Sunday, April 29, 2018.

MONDAY

“American Idol” 8 p.m. Fox — The top 10 named.

“The Voice” 8 p.m. NBC — The top 12 perform.

“The Resident” 9 p.m. Fox — When Nic finds herself under investigation in Lily’s death, Conrad comes to her defense, but ends up making the situation worse.

“The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special 2018” 10 p.m. CBS — Christina Aguilera joins James Corden for “Carpool Karaoke”; and Anna Faris and Allison Janney (“Mom”), Kunal Nayyar (“The Big Bang Theory”), and Iain Armitage (“Young Sheldon”) join for “Crosswalk the Musical: The Sound of Music.

“Good Girls” 10:01 p.m. NBC — Rio asks the women to complete a seemingly simple job so he can get the operation up and running, but Beth, Ruby, and Annie fear there may be more to the task than meets the eye.

“McMafia” 11:10 p.m. AMC — Alex flies to Moscow unaware of his father’s actions, and Vadim and Ilya are lying in wait for him. Alex has to draw on all his resources to survive.

TUESDAY

“The 100” 9 p.m. the CW (fifth season debut) — Clarke struggles to survive on a desolate, scorched earth. Meanwhile, her friends in space come across a long-awaited beacon of hope.

“Genius: Picasso” 9 p.m. NGC (second season debut) — Pablo Picasso contends with the rising threat of fascism in Spain.

“New Girl” 9:30 p.m. Fox — Nervous about Ruth’s interview at a prestigious pre-school, Schmidt recruits Jess to help her prepare.

“Chicago Med” 10 p.m. NBC — After a 10-year-old boy is admitted to the hospital, Dr. Manning and Dr. Halstead disagree on how to best handle the boy’s parents.

“Deception” 10 p.m. ABC (special night) — When the Mystery Woman kidnaps Cameron, the FBI calls on Jonathan Black to help find him—and stop the Mystery Woman from committing her next crime.

“Legion” 10 p.m. FX — David is tested.

“Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and Biggie Smalls” 10 p.m. USA — The Task Force has a new target. Poole runs into his old partner, who has updates on the Biggie case. Voletta Wallace visits her son’s hotel room the day after his death.

WEDNESDAY

“The Handmaid’s Tale” 3:01 a.m. Hulu (second season debut) — It’s punishment time for the ladies who refused to stone poor Janine.

“Empire” 8 p.m. Fox — Lucious and Thirsty try to squash Eddie’s takeover by confronting him with legal papers.

“The Blacklist” 8 p.m. NBC — Liz uses intel from an unexpected source to force a race with Red to uncover the secrets he holds, as Red initiates a plan to retrieve the duffel bag of bones.

“Survivor” 8 p.m. CBS — Michael saved himself with an immunity idol last week. Can he save himself again?

“Star” 9 p.m. Fox —Maurice brings in an old friend and regional promoter, Natalie, to help put the artists of Midtown Sound on the map.

“Suits” 9 p.m. USA — Harvey and Louis are blindsided by an attack against Specter Lit.

“Archer” 10 p.m. FXX (ninth season debut) — Archer – now in 1939 – inserts himself into a domestic dispute, and engine troubles threaten to ruin his business.

“Brockmire” 10 p.m. IFC (second season debut) — Now calling minor league games in New Orleans, Jim is up for the major leagues in Atlanta.

“The Americans” 10 p.m. FX —As the summit fast approaches, Elizabeth enlists Philip’s help for a mission that could yield game-changing intel.

“Code Black” 10 p.m. CBS (third season debut) — A drug bust-turned-shootout tests the bravery of the doctors of Angels Memorial as they race to save a girl caught in the crossfire.

“Designated Survivor” 10 p.m. ABC — Attorney Ethan West calls on President Kirkman’s closest advisors and staff as he begins his investigation.

THURSDAY

“The Big Bang Theory” 8 p.m. CBS —Sheldon goes to Vegas to win money for science.

“Grey’s Anatomy” 8 p.m. ABC — The hospital brings in crisis management to help them sort out allegations against Harper Avery.

“NFL Draft” 8 p.m. Fox, ESPN, NFL Network — For true NFL addicts.

“Young Sheldon” 8:30 p.m. CBS — A battle erupts between the Coopers and Sparks when the Sparks’ new dog terrorizes Sheldon.

“Station 19” 9 p.m. ABC — Ryan tags along to a disaster drill training at Station 19 where he and Jack get competitive.

“Mom” 9 p.m. CBS — Christy is concerned that she and Bonnie might lose their apartment when Bonnie locks horns with the tough new building owner.

“Atlanta” 10 p.m. FX — Paper Boi has an attitude despite the fact he’s rich.

“Chicago Fire” 10 p.m. NBC — After saving a girl from a car accident, Chief Boden and Lt. Severide are taken aback when they receive a surprise package.

“Quantico” 10 p.m. ABC (third season debut) — Alex Parrish is forced to abandon her serene life in Italy to risk it all for her country.

“Bobby Kennedy For President” 3:01 a.m. Netflix The eye-opening and transformative four-part series utilizes rare and never-before-seen archival footage – much of it digitized for the first time – along with new interviews with those that worked closely with RFK and knew him well.

“Dynasty” 8 p.m. the CW — While Alexis and Blake continue to battle, Alexis enlists in a surprising ally, Jeff Colby.

WEEKEND

“Iyanla Fix My Life” 9 p.m. Saturday OWN (eighth season finale) — Philando Castile was killed by a police officer during a routine traffic stop while his fiancée Diamond Reynolds live-streamed the aftermath. With the help of Trayvon Martin’s mother, Iyanla works with Diamond to heal her pain and move into the light.

“American Idol” 8 p.m. Sunday ABC — Top 10 perform Disney hits and real-time voting means immediate results.

“The Real Housewives of Atlanta: 10th Anniversary Special” 8 p.m. Sunday Bravo — A trip through memory lane.

“Nanny Killer” 8 p.m. Sunday Lifetime — Hardworking student Sarah takes a well-paying summer job as nanny at a winery to offset tuition expenses. But she soon realizes something is “off” with the children she cares for when their mischievous pranks lead to deadly consequences.

“Homeland” 9 p.m. Sunday Showtime (seventh season finale) — Show title: “Paean to the People.”

“The North Korea Crisis” 9 p.m. Sunday History — A look at what led up to the mess we’re in now.

“Westworld” 9 p.m. Sunday HBO — A look back at the beginning.

“Into the Badlands” 10:05 p.m. Sunday AMC — Sunny and Bajie seek help from Lydia. The Widow struggles to control M.K. Pilgrim seeks to establish a new order in the Badlands.

“Madam Secretary” 10 p.m. Sunday CBS — Elizabeth is attending a summit in Montreal to resolve territorial claims of the North Pole when an activist group detonates a bomb and she can’t locate Jason and Piper.

“Deception” 10 p.m. Sunday ABC — The FBI works with the Deception group to help stop the Mystery Woman from successfully committing one of the largest jewel heists in history.

“Silicon Valley” 10 p.m. Sunday HBO — Richard decides to help when Laurie gets in a jam, but his lack of emotional discipline threatens to backfire on Pied Piper.
